A summer school providing lessons on extreme optics for postgraduate students was organized at Shanxi University (SXU) from July 21 to 27.

The school was hosted by Shanxi Provincial Department of Education, the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering of Shanxi University, and Collaborative Innovation Centre of Shanxi Extreme Optics Association.

A total of 14 professors from eight Chinese universities including Peking University, Nankai University, East China Normal University, Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Shanghai Jiaotong University, delivered lectures to 149 students from 17 colleges including 47 doctoral students.

The courses focused on the scientific and technical issues of extreme optics, and introduced the research progress in new physics, new phenomena, new technologies and new devices under extreme conditions.

During the seven-day course, students and teachers interacted effectively in academic discussion and research, and the students finally submitted a study report and received a certificate of completion.
