SXU and University of North Carolina in Charlotte hold video conference

Shanxi University (SXU) and University of North Carolina in Charlotte (UNCC) held the first council meeting via internet on jointly establishing a Confucius Institute on May 1.

Shi Shuai, secretary of Shanxi University Party Committee, expressed his heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the school to the council during the conference. He hoped that the main tasks of the Confucius Institute would be to carry out Chinese language teaching, organize Chinese proficiency tests, and hold linguistic and cultural exchange activities.

Through the platform of Confucius Institute, we will gradually promote the teaching and research cooperation between the two schools and the communication among teachers and students, added Shi.

Yang Jun, vice-chancellor of Shanxi University, stated that as partner universities, we will fully support the development of the Confucius Institute and further expand the exchanges between teachers and students and to make the UNCC Confucius Institute a high-quality Sino-US communication center.

The conference also discussed future plans of the development of the institute including infrastructure construction, teaching facilities purchases and annual budget.
