XJTU professor lectures at SXU

Updated: 2017-11-13

Qiu Qishan, professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), delivered a lecture on coal-based functional carbon materials, at Shanxi University, on Nov 6.

Around 200 staff members and students from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Department of Molecular Science, and Department of Resources and Environment attended the lecture.

During the lecture, Professor Qiu first introduced the importance of compositing new carbon materials from coal. He then stated how they developed new carbon materials and applied them to dye-sensitized solar cells, thus improving the performance of the cells.

He also explained how they used technologies such as microwaves, low-temperature plasma and electrostatic spinning to produce high-quality grapheme, as well as how the new carbon materials were applied to the production of luminescent devices, electrochemistry and to separate oil and water.

Professor Qiu also shared his experiences in research and development during the lecture.

The professor is a doctoral supervisor at Xi’an Jiaotong University. He is the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and recognized as one of the experts who enjoy special subsidies from the State Council. His research interests include the chemical engineering of materials, energy, and the chemical industry. He’s the author of over 580 articles in international academic journals, 46 of which have made front covers.
