Fifteen expats from countries including Russia, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan visited Dangkou Ancient Town in Xishan district, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, on Nov 25 to experience the scenery of Jiangnan watertowns.

They took a boat tour of the town along the river, on both sides of which stand houses with whitewashed walls and gray tiles. They then tried movable-type printing and were amazed at the wisdom of ancient Chinese people and traditional Chinese culture.

One of the five historic and cultural blocks or towns in Wuxi under key protection, Dongkou Ancient Town is the cultural treasure and popular attraction in Xishan.

The expats all agreed that the architecture in Dangkou is quite special and the local culture is attractive and expressed hopes that they can get a further understanding of China and Xishan.

On the same day, a plate recognizing status as a friendly activity base with foreign countries in Xishan was granted to 10 local institutions, including Wuxi University and Dangkou Ancient Town to honor their efforts in expanding  people-to-people exchanges and cooperation with other countries.
