A total of 98,600 tourists visited four national 5A scenic areas in Wuxi, Jiangsu province during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, according to the local tourism bureau.
The gate money of the four scenic areas amounted to over 4.6 million yuan ($650,000). Under the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control requirements of the local government, all the scenic areas required visitors to make an appointment with their ID cards in advance.
Many representatives from the local scenic areas agreed that making reservations have become a new habit for tourists as COVID-19 prevention work is normalized.
Visitors also felt satisfied about making advanced reservations as they could arrange their schedules easier and enjoy their visits at scenic spots that were not crowded as domestic attractions were asked to limit the number of visitors to 30 percent of their maximum capacity to maintain social distancing measures.
A series of events were held for tourists featuring popular traditional activities in celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival like making zongzi and dragon boat races.
Huishan Ancient Town recreated an ancient ceremony for the Dragon Boat Festival, inviting performers to wear hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group, and to go on a cruise by boat while holding zongzi to offer sacrifice to the dragon under the water.
