The Chinese delegation to the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Paralympics convened a meeting on March 8 to study and convey the spirit of the congratulatory message sent by State Councilor Shen Yiqin on behalf of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council after the delegation won its first gold medal earlier.
Zhou Changkui, chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) and executive head of the Chinese delegation, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Chang Zheng, vice-chairman of the federation, deputy head of the Chinese delegation, read out the congratulatory message.
The meeting also outlined plans for the delegation's upcoming competitions.
On March 7, the opening day of the games, Cai Jiayun from Yunnan province won the gold medal in the men's 7.5-kilometer sprint standing event in biathlon, securing the Chinese delegation's first gold medal at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Paralympics.
So far, the Chinese team has won a total of 16 medals, including eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals.
The meeting noted that the achievements have been made possible through the dedication of the athletes and the strong support given by various departments.
The congratulatory message from State Councilor Shen greatly inspired and encouraged the entire team, injecting a powerful impetus for achieving the delegation's sporting goals and boost their confidence for the competitions ahead.
The meeting emphasized that all members of the delegation must bear in mind the instructions entrusted to them, stay committed to their mission, strive for excellent results and win honor for the country. Athletes were urged to remain modest in victory and resilient in defeat, face strong competitors without fear, compete with courage and determination, and give their best in every event.
They were also encouraged to engage in friendly exchanges and compete with true sportsmanship, aiming for success, both in competition and in demonstrating exemplary conduct.
The meeting called for promptly conveying the sincere care of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to every athlete, coach and staff member, inspiring them to maintain an uplifting spirit and a strong sense of mission, continue striving with determination and live up to the expectations and deep concern of the Party and the people.
