Zhuhai remains National Hygienic City for 3 decades
Zhuhai recently passed follow-up examinations by the Office of the National Patriotic Health Campaign Committee, maintaining its title as National Hygienic City for the 30th year, according to a notice released Feb 8 by the National Health Commission. Zhuhai first earned the title back in 1992.
Being named a National Hygienic City is a top domestic honor that demands high standards in health education, sanitation, environmental protection, food and drinking water safety, infectious disease prevention and control, and pest eradication.
The city was one of the first seven nominees to win the title in 1992, and has passed follow-up examinations every three years since then.

Zhuhai has created an excellent living environment for residents in the past three decades. Hygienic infrastructure including public toilets, waste transfer stations, and garbage cans have been upgraded. The city is pushing forward garbage sorting and formulating an optimized waste disposal system.
A "vegetable basket" project was implemented in Zhuhai, upgrading and renovating 100 farmers' markets citywide to be cleaner, safer, and smarter. All restaurants now support consumers to monitor the operations of kitchen staff members via videos or transparent glass windows, ensuring food security.
Comprehensive management for treatment of the majority of black and odorous rivers is being carried out.
Disinfection measures for key places in Zhuhai were well operated during the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control periods and a social normalized sterilization system was formulated to eliminate cases of insect-borne diseases such as the dengue fever.
Zhuhai will continue to give priority to ensuring people's health in its overall development and become a modern and international hygienic city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
