A Jan 7 Hengqin-Macao investment promotion and matchmaking event, the first of its kind since establishment of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin in September 2021, gathered 40 outstanding companies funded by domestic top venture capital institution Legend Capital.

Among them are domestic leading biotech company Innovent Biologics, third-party medical examination giant Guangzhou KingMed Diagnostics Group, Zhuhai-based IC chip designer Apexmic, and China's new entertainment leader Wajijiwa.

Hengqin and Macao now are making unrelenting efforts to raise emerging industries that support the diversified development of Macao's economy. The zone is open for strategic investors in search of investment projects and entrepreneurship, said Li Ziwei, acting director of the zone's Economic Development Bureau. 

Chen Jiaqi of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute noted that SAR government offers streamlined one-stop services to entrepreneurs from the Chinese mainland to invest in Macao. An investment committee formed by leaders of 12 government departments will provide guidance and assistance to domestic entrepreneurs in license application and project settlement in Macao.

Hengqin will also offer more policy supports for sci-tech innovation and unicorn companies, according to Zhang Ge, acting deputy director of the zone's Economic Development Bureau.

Some company representatives at the event noted that detailed feasibility study reports will be formulated for projects to land in Macao and Hengqin.
