China Green Park poised as Jinwan new-materials draw

Good prospects for the integrated Jinwan District and Zhuhai Ecological & Technological Development Zone to develop cutting-edge new materials were forecast at the China Green New-Materials (Zhuhai) Industrial Development Conference on Sept 14 and 15.

The E&T zone, previously known as Gaolan Port Economic Zone, now contains China Green New-Materials (Zhuhai) Industrial Park. The park already has industrial and R&D foundations in cutting-edge new materials with settlements by American PPG Industries, Shenzhen Chuangzhi Technology, Hangzhou First Applied Material, Hong Kong Lee & Man Chemical, Lubrizol Additives (Zhuhai), Zhuhai China Resources Chemical Material Technology, and Zhuhai Semicorp.

The park recorded output value of 24.5 billion yuan ($3.5 billion) in 2019, up 20.2 percent year-on-year. Liu Jun, director of the local administrative committee and head of Jinwan District, hailed its potential for a new round of development in Zhuhai.

The development zone will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign new-materials enterprises. Frontier research, achievement transformation, product processing, and applications will expand the new-materials industrial chain, said Liu.

More than 400 representatives from governments, universities, enterprises, and industrial parks visited the China Green park and put forth suggestions for Zhuhai's new-materials industry. They also contributed insight on lithium battery new energy, functional polymer, and degradable materials as well as maleic anhydride and its downstream plastic degradation technology.

Gan Yong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering said cost-efficient and ecofriendly green new materials will bring about breakthroughs that change lifestyles under China's carbon peaking and neutrality strategies. However, there is still a gap between China and developed countries in optical fibers, semiconductors, and chip materials.

A 100-billion-yuan ($16-billion) industrial cluster of biomedicine, high-end printing equipment, new materials and new energy, aerospace, intelligent manufacturing, marine engineering equipment manufacture, and clean industrial clusters such as energy, household appliances, and electronic information are taking form in Zhuhai with adequate industrial and supply chains, public utilities, management concepts, and talents.

The conference was handled by the China Petroleum & Chemical Industry Federation's Industrial Park Committee and Zhuhai Ecological & Technological Development Zone under auspices of the China National Chemical Economic & Technical Development Center.

Jinwan District and the Zhuhai Economic & Technological Development Zone realized integrated operation in January. In May the website of the E&T zone and former Gaolan Port Economic Zone Management Committee was closed. Related content and data were moved to the portal website of Jinwan District People's Government.
