Hengqin supercomputer helping safeguard social order
The supercomputer in Hengqin New Area has been contracted to make Zhuhai more of a "smart city" by processing issues of social governance: the grassroots-supported safeguard of social order and stability.
With a planned computing power scale of 4Eops (tens of billions of times per second), the Hengqin Advanced Intelligent Computing Center is the largest AI computing power platform in China. The Zhuhai Government Service Data Management Bureau signed an agreement with the center Aug 20 to quickly develop new-type digital infrastructures to cope with the medium and large-size artificial intelligence commuting demands in future social governance.
The agreement allows super commuting power to exert a greater role in innovating government services at a new Digital Government and dedicated societal governance zone of the computing center. Social governance addresses such issues as protection and coordination of public interests, social safety, public security, social stability, public service, emergency management, grassroots governance, and social autonomy.

In recent years, Zhuhai has increased online processing and management of government affairs. Currently, 240 items can be processed instantly, and 3,631 items handled without presenting related certificates. Macao enterprises and residents have processed more than 100,000 items online.
In grassroots governance, Xiangzhou has established a refined urban management platform, while the National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan-based) has applied AI information extraction technology in the "smart" management of roads, security at residential communities, industrial parks, schools, construction sites, and the environment.
Next, the Zhuhai Government Service Data Management Bureau will step utilize safe data storage, data authorization, trusted transmission, privacy calculation, joint modeling, algorithm verification, and convergence analysis. This will further consolidate the flow of data and increase the competitiveness and sustainable development of Zhuhai's Digital Government.
AI and data analysis projects and the Zhuhai node of edge computing resource pool are also to propel the innovation of a digital economy. This is to serve as a new engine for high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The Hengqin Advanced Intelligent Computing Center was established in May 2019 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangdong, Zhuhai, and Hengqin New Area governments. To date, the center has served 100 projects including scientific research at the University of Macau and Zhuhai Open Data Innovation Application Competition.
