One toll stop replaces nearly adjacent two at bottleneck
Two Doumen toll stations at the Guangdong Western Coastal and Jiangmen-Zhuhai expressways are being consolidated into one to alleviate traffic jams, increase travel efficiency, and reduce operation costs.
By the Oct 1 National Day holiday, drivers will encounter a new toll station 300 m (328 yd) from the expressway ramp after turning right from Baijiao Avenue. There are seven exit lanes with a major structure and anti-typhoon rain shed in place. Construction of five entry lanes is proceeding, according to Tang Junyi of Poly Changda Engineering.
Two current toll stations have only four entry and seven exit lanes. Although 1 km (.62 mile) apart, they are not internet-connected. Motorists must pay fees before exiting one highway and entering another, and the two stations are often congested during peak hours, said Chen Xiao of the Doumen Transport Bureau.
