Work begins this year on highway link to Zhongshan
The north extension of Jinqin Express Road into Zhongshan will come under construction by the end of this year, states a public notice posted July 22 with Zhuhai Communication Group.
The Zhuhai Development & Reform Bureau states in a Phase 2 feasibility report that the main line will connect to the Zhongshan East Outer Ring Expressway with dual six-lanes and designed speed of 60 kmph (37 mph).
It will extend 2 km (1.24 miles) from the Zhongshan-Zhuhai Flood Discharge Channel in Jinding Town, pass through Beiwei (Zhuhai North Railway Station area) and then tunnel 800 m (875 yd) under the Technological Innovation Coast of the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan).

There will be entry-exit ramps at both tunnel ends and land will be reserved for the interchange to access the proposed Lingding Sea Channel (highway-railway Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link).
Meanwhile, Phase 1 of the Jinqin Express Road north extension line will stretch 2.15 km (1.34 miles) from Gaoxin Interchange, where many overpasses are being raised south of the Zhongshan-Zhuhai Flood Discharge Channel. Construction of some bridge piers has been completed while box girders are being prefabricated.
Once operational, the extension line will allow northbound motorists to reach Zhongshan intercity expressways more easily and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor sea channel. Southbound motorists will access downtown Zhuhai without passing through traffic lights.
A key north-south channel through downtown Zhuhai, Jinqin Express Road goes from the intersection of Gangwan Avenue and Jinfeng Road in Jinding Town, and connects to the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway in the south and Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor sea channel to the north.
