The city's equipment manufacturing industry was previewed by the news media on Sept 3 in preparation for this month's 5th Exposition for Investment & Trade of Advanced Equipment Manufacturing in the West Bank of the Pearl River, also known as AEME.

Shen Yan, head of the Zhuhai Industry & Information Technology Bureau, distributed a handout to 30 press members describing development of the equipment manufacturing industry and the city's preparations for the 5th AEME. Last year, an orchestra of Gree robots played music to entertain and impress guests at the AEME. This time, Zhuhai enterprises will display 100 innovative products at the city's 5,000-sq-m (6,000-sq-yd) exhibition area.

Highlighted will be "smart" equipment by Zhuhai Gree Group, hydrogen vehicles by Zhuhai Yinlong Energy, autonomous vehicles by Zhongxing Intelligent Vehicle, and 3D printers by Zhuhai Seine Technology. Also on display will be drones and flight-control systems by Yuren Agricultural Aviation, a satellite constellation independently constructed and operated by Zhuhai Orbita, as well as unmanned ships by Zhuhai Sunbird Yacht Manufacturing and other enterprises.

The reporters visited Zhuhai Gree Intelligent Equipment Co's Jida Industrial Base, where they were shown a high-precision graphite processing production line, industrial robots, cooling machines, and other "smart" equipment.

The advanced equipment manufacturing industry has been a key development area for Zhuhai. From 2015 to 2018, the value added of the equipment manufacturing industry above designated size increased from 37.9 billion ($5.3 billion) yuan to 42.3 billion yuan ($5.85 billion), with an average annual growth rate of 10.8 percent. During the first half of 2019, the value added reached 19.4 billion yuan ($2.7 billion), accounting for 36 percent of the total in the section.

The AEME Expo is hosted by Zhuhai, Shaoguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, Zhaoqing, and Yunfu. It will be held at Tanzhou International Convention & Exhibition Center in Foshan from Sept 20 to 22.
