Yunnan University holds ethnic workshop

Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – recently hosted an ethnic history workshop.

The sixth Youth Scholar Workshop on Ethnic History – jointly organized by the School of History and Archives and the Graduate School of Yunnan University – was held at YNU on July 16-22.

Experts from various domestic research institutions and universities, chief editors of related journals and students from various universities nationwide attended the event.

Liao Lianzhong, vice president of Yunnan University, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

The week-long workshop offered segments that featured expert lectures, face-to-face salons with top journal editors, student discussions and field research.

During the expert lectures, some well-known pundits in the field of ethnic history taught about the frontiers, theories and methods of ethnic history research.

In the face-to-face salon with leading journal editors, the chief editors of some academic journals lectured on topics of common concern to young scholars – such as selecting topics, and writing and submitting papers for ethnic history research.

The editors also engaged in academic interactions with the participants.

During the workshop, participants also engaged in discussions about various academic papers, conducted field research and received academic reviews from experts.
