Updated: Apr 11, 2024

A youth cultural experience group from Hong Kong visited the Chenggong Campus of Yunnan University in Kunming – capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province – for an exchange on April 2.

With over 130 participants, the group learned about the university's history at the Yunnan University History Museum.

During the visit, the participants said the activity allowed them to understand the historical culture of Yunnan University, broaden their horizons and make new friends.

The experience event was sponsored by the East Union Foundation. During the trip, not only did the Hong Kong young folks visit Yunnan University, but they also toured Kunming, Dali and Lijiang cities. There, they learned about Yunnan's history and ethnic culture, as well as got to grips with its handicrafts.

Choi Yuk-lin, director of the Hong Kong Education Bureau, said it was a no-brainer for them to choose Yunnan for the cultural experience. That was because there were ethnic groups, diverse cultures and abundant species.

"Yet all the ethnic groups live in harmony and there is harmonious development between humans and nature. This is what we want to convey to the kids," Choi said.

She added that seeing the children establish friendships with local youngsters and become more confident and cheerful through the cultural exchanges – and further understanding the national conditions through Yunnan – was the greatest achievement of the trip.
