XJTU wins four 1st prizes in national mathematical modeling competition
Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) students secured four first-place prizes and seven second-place prizes at the 2024 China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, marking the university's best first-prize performance since 2017.
This year's competition attracted participants from 1,788 universities and campuses from China and abroad, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore. A total of 65,761 teams (59,278 undergraduate teams and 6,483 junior college teams), involving nearly 200,000 participants, registered for the event.
XJTU placed significant emphasis on the competition, with its Practical Teaching Center coordinating efforts. Since the competition's launch in April, 523 student teams comprising 1,569 undergraduates from 22 colleges across XJTU registered to participate, a 30.1-percent increase in participants compared to last year.
The Practical Teaching Center hosted a series of lectures titled "Applications and Extensions of Mathematical Modeling" to enhance students' understanding of mathematical modeling, expand their knowledge, and improve problem-solving skills. These lectures featured experts from XJTU and beyond who specialize in mathematical modeling research and teaching, ensuring robust preparation for the students.
XJTU holds a lecture themed around mathematical modeling.
The competition, organized by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM), has become the largest foundational discipline competition for universities in China and the world's largest mathematical modeling competition. Held annually since 1992, it is one of 19 contests included in the inaugural Ranking of Discipline Competitions in Universities and Colleges.
At XJTU, the competition is one of the most popular among undergraduates, engaging the largest number of participants from the widest range of disciplines.
