APSCO announces the establishment of ASLA in Beijing.

In early 2024, the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) announced the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Space Law Alliance (ASLA) in Beijing. The School of Law at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) joined as a founding member and attended the inaugural ceremony.

APSCO, headquartered in Beijing, is an intergovernmental organization comprising United Nations member states from the Asia-Pacific region.

Its mission is to promote and bolster cooperation among member states in the joint development, research, application, and training of space technology – while also coordinating the implementation and enforcement of space law and policies.

XJTU School of Law's project is listed in ASLA's annual work plan.

ASLA provides a platform for universities, research institutions and social organizations from APSCO member states to collaborate on space law and policy through joint research and coordinated activities.

A total of 27 universities, research institutions, and government departments from countries such as China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand, and Turkey have become founding members of the alliance.

Zhao Chunchao, secretary-general of the China Institute of Space Law, was named the first president of ASLA.

On Aug 27, 2024, ASLA held its first member assembly, where it outlined the key priorities for 2025-2026. The China Space Law and Policy Quarterly report project, led by XJTU School of Law, was incorporated into the alliance's annual work plan.
