Zhuhai Opera House

Zhuhai Opera House, located on the north of Yeli Island, is a landmark building of the city. Shaped like scallops to represent the brilliant sun and moon, the Zhuhai Opera House is the first island theater in the Chinese mainland. Its design is inspired by the famous painting The Birth of Venus, which depicts Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, born from a scallop. 

The theatre was designed by Chen Keshi and its construction began on April 28, 2010. It has a floor space of nearly 59,000 sq m with an investment of 1.08 billion yuan. It adopts the world's leading sound, light, electricity and stage design.

The theatre opened to the public on Jan 1, 2017, providing Zhuhai citizens and visitors with a place to enjoy the charm of opera, musicals, ballet, drama, symphonies and Chinese operas.
