Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai

The Zhuhai division of the "Maker in Guangdong" SME Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition concluded at the Intercontinental Zhuhai on July 19.

A new-generation optical VOC sensor and its application won the first prize of the enterprise category, while an automated nucleic acid analytic system was crowned champion in the maker category.

The competition, which kicked off on June 5, received 152 projects from emerging industries such as new-generation information technology, advanced manufacturing, biomedicine, digital economy, and new materials.

Twelve high-quality projects made it to the final after two rounds of competition, vying for a prize pool of 565,000 yuan ($82,141). They will later be recommended to renowned venture capital institutions to gain financing.

The event was sponsored by the Guangdong Province Departments of Industry & Information Technology and of Finance, the Zhuhai Industry & Information Technology Bureau, and the Xiangzhou District People's Government. The Xiangzhou Science, Technology, Industry & Information Technology Bureau, as well as the Xiangzhou SME Service Center oversaw the competition locally.
