Hengqin hosts its very own jazz festival this summer

Hengqin Jazz Music Week opens on Aug 9, starting 10 days of performances by world-renowned jazz prodigies and up-and-coming talents, it was announced at a July 10 press conference.
The new diverse music festival takes places at Sumlodol Hengqin Camping Town. It is designed to appeal to local music lovers through interpretation of jazz classics in different forms and styles.
On the billboard are Swedish jazz pianist Stefan Karlsson, an American Grammy Award winner; American top jazz educator Tim Ishii; and Ze Eduardo, jazz godfather from Portugal. Chinese senior composer Lin Chang and another 13 jazz musicians from home and abroad will also showcase their skills and have face-to-face chats with the audience.

They will also give music lessons to youths of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a highlight of the 5th Golden Jazz Summer Camp that will form an important part of the music week.
The first Hengqin Cup Jazz Competition will let contestants who survived an online audition compete before local audiences.
Nearly 60 musicians in 14 famous jazz bands from nine countries and regions will perform. For instance, the Niccolò Faraci Trio is expected to ignite a range of reactions from frenzied delight to more subtle appreciation at the Kuayue New Generation Music Festival, also on the roster. The trio will integrate different genres of musical styles and offer its own combination of opera and jazz in new arrangements. The festival was named to the 2018 list of key projects for Belt & Road cultural trade and investment.
