The competition was jointly organized by the intellectual property authorities of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao under the guidance of the National Intellectual Property Administration. It was aimed at raising people's awareness of intellectual property, strengthening intellectual property cooperation in the Greater Bay Area and bringing in high-level projects for settlement.

Launched in January, the competition attracted 586 projects from across the country. They were from a wide variety of strategic emerging industries including new-generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, digital economy, marine economy, and modern agriculture.

A total of 1.9 million yuan ($277,705) in prize money and 28 awards were granted to the projects that survived multiple rounds of roadshows, on-site presentations, and expert reviews over the past six months.

In addition, award winners from Guangdong will be recommended for the selection of a Guangdong Patent Award. Local intellectual property bureaus will also aid in their matchmaking with financial and investment agencies.
