The governor of Australian state Victoria met with Zhuhai Deputy Mayor Zhang Yisheng on May 29 to seek further exchanges and cooperation against the backdrop of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Zhang outlined Zhuhai's socioeconomic development to Gov Linda Dessau and her delegation from Melbourne. He addressed trajectory, geographical location, urban planning, infrastructure construction, industrial layout, and investment.

Now that the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is open, Zhuhai has become the only city connected directly to both Hong Kong and Macao by roadway and will play a significant role in the construction of the Greater Bay Area, noted Zhang.

Dessau was reminded that Zhuhai has always valued exchanges and cooperation with Australia and has sister-city relations with Gold Coast in Queensland. It looks forward to ramping up exchanges and cooperation with Victoria in culture, economy and commerce, tourism and leisure, and medicine and healthcare for win-win development.

Dessau said that Victoria attaches great importance to its connection with China. It is expected that Zhuhai will make greater achievements as part of the burgeoning Greater Bay Area, and that it will enhance contacts with Victoria in education, sports, and other sectors.

Victoria is the smallest mainland state but has second largest economy in Australia, accounting for a quarter of the nation's GDP. It is located at the southeastern tip of the continent across from Tasmania. The state's largest income-producers are finance and insurance, while its biggest employer is the healthcare and social assistance sector.
