Xiangzhou continues lifting livelihoods

Social spending for Xiangzhou District went up steadily in the past three years, reaching 13.7 billion yuan ($2 billion). It increased from 3.8 billion yuan in 2016 to 48.9 billion yuan in 2017 and exceeded 5 billion yuan last year.

Xiangzhou, Zhuhai has been attaching great importance to improving people's welfare and strengthening their well-being. Overall advancement in education, including facilities, faculty quality, and campus safety is always a first priority.

According to the education plan of Xiangzhou from 2016 to 2020, 25 additional primary and secondary schools and kindergartens will be opened. By the end of 2018, Xiangzhou had constructed nine new schools including Beishan Middle School, Daishan Primary School, Xiangzhou District Gree School, Meihua Middle School, and Meihua Kindergarten. Reconstruction and expansion projects of eight schools were also completed on schedule.

Meihua Kindergarten has started enrollment. 

Improvement of medical and healthcare services is high on the Xiangzhou government's work agenda as well. Xiangzhou's People's Hospital is being upgraded and expanded to be focused on treatment of geriatric, chronic and frequently-occurring diseases, and will be committed to rehabilitation of geriatric patients. The hospital is expected to be completed in 2021, and will provide 600 beds in total and a total floor space of about 80,000 sq m.

Meanwhile, 126 community parks have been built in the residential neighborhoods to promote fitness. Xiangshan Lake Park has transformed an idle mountainous area into a large forest park. It cost nearly 100 million yuan and has seen flocks of people every day for leisure and sports.

Up to now, Xiangzhou has invested 600 million yuan on various parks in a total area of about 5.9 million square meters. There are six additional parks under construction to accommodate expected throngs of citizens and tourists.

Attentive care for the elderly is also being emphasized. Several old-age service centers and points have opened to provide more meticulous care and specially-designed insurance products have been purchased by the government for senior citizens, according to officials.
