Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai

The 4.8-km (3-mile) South Section of the Xingye Express Road superhighway came under construction on Dec 28, one year after work began on the North Section.

The project starts near the intersection of Jiuzhou Avenue and First Jianye Road in Jida and extends northward along Bailian Road toward Ningxi. It traverses Banzhang Mt with two three-lane tunnels that follow First Xiangning Street, Huwan and Xingye roads, and passes under Ningxi, Renmin, and Yinhua roads. The line will eventually meet the North Section, which is to be completed in 2020.

Groundbreaking ceremony

Roads along the route will be widened and fitted with additional ramps. Maximum speeds will be no more than 60 kmph (37 mph).

The extension will further improve north-south rapid transit and contribute to the blueprinted "Six Horizontal & Ten Vertical" trunk road network in Zhuhai.

It is also to be a crucial link between the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Cross-River Channel and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridges.
