Thirty-six returned overseas Chinese scholars with PhDs showcased their projects in Zhuhai on Dec 4 and 5, hoping to start businesses in the innovative coastal city and benefit from its favorable policies.
Proposals concerning developments in intelligent manufacturing, electronics and information, and biomedicine, among other emerging industries, were presented at the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center. They were screened from more than 200 applications and were highlighted at an exchange meeting specifically organized for discussion of innovation and entrepreneurship among high-end talents. The event coincided with a nationwide tour of returned Chinese overseas scholars.

High-end talents show interest in many sci-tech displays.
Fourteen sci-tech projects about various research topics such as flexible electronics, industrial CT scanning, and fast diagnosis reagents have passed preliminary reviews of their eligibility for subsidies. Once they settle in Zhuhai and meet policy requirements, they can receive subsidies of up to 1 million yuan ($145,245).
In addition, 23 key talent projects agreed to station in the Macao-Hengqin Youth Entrepreneurship Valley, Southern Software Park, Zhuhai Tsinghua Science Park and other locations.
There were also roadshows scouting out the most promising projects developed by returnees.
The event was sponsored by a guiding committee of experts for the nationwide tour of returned overseas Chinese scholars, the service center for overseas students and experts under the Ministry of Human Resources & Social Security, the Human Resources & Social Security Department of Guangdong, and the Zhuhai government. This marked the second time the event was held in the city.

Companies communicate face-to-face with talents.
According to data, Zhuhai attracted 25,000 new talents in various fields from January to November and it is estimated that more than 27,000 talents will come by the end of the year, which would represent an increase of 51 percent year-on-year. Currently, there are 26 academics working in Zhuhai, plus more than 4,000 talents with doctorate degrees and 22,000 with masters' degrees, and more than 8,000 returned overseas talents. Zhuhai's ability to attract and retain talents is stronger than any other prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province.
