Zhuhai City Polytechnic in Jinwan District contracted on Nov 19 to train high-quality technical and skilled employees to meet the growing talent needs of Gree Electric Appliances.

Gree Pearl Industrial College will combine Polytechnic's established teaching systems with Gree's rich managerial experience. "Gree Electric Appliances needs to constantly replenish talents, so we will cultivate more talents by establishing industrial colleges," said Gree's chair and president, Dong Mingzhu.

The new college will offer majors in Industrial Robots, Industrial Internet Technology, Big Data, and Logistics Management. Some 600 Polytechnic students majoring in Gree-relevant fields will be incorporated into it.

Under the program top graduates at Gree Pearl Industrial College must have earned both the Polytechnic’s and a Gree-approved vocational skill certificate. Those who qualify can go "zero transition" directly to work at the company.

An 800-m (874-yd) education base featuring Gree corporate culture will be built within three years, as will a 1,000-m (1,093-yd) training center to allow practice with Gree intelligent equipment. After that, a second training center will target new engineering fields and cost 260 million yuan ($37.5 million) while covering 4.5 hectares (11.1 acres).

Three-thousand full-time on-campus students are expected by 2022.

The world's largest residential air-conditioner manufacturer, Gree specializes in refrigeration units, intelligent equipment, and communications technology. It is headquartered in Qianshan, Xiangzhou District.

Zhuhai City Polytechnic was founded in 2004 and is sponsored by the Zhuhai government with a focus on higher vocational education.
