Updated: 2018-10-09 Print

E-commerce giant JD has chosen Gree Electric Appliances of Zhuhai as the supplier of condensing units for the world's largest cold chain logistics system the company is building.

Gree president Dong Mingzhu made the announcement on her official WeChat account on Oct 8.

The cold storage houses will be equipped with fully-enclosed air-cooled condensing units GNJ-QF3CG/C in C Series and direct-current (DC) frequency conversion condensing units GNJ-QF3CDsJ/NfA, according to Dong. The Gree-made products are technologically advanced and environmentally friendly. The latter adopts green refrigerant R404A which is harmless to the ozone layer and can maintain temperatures from -25 to 20 degrees Celsius.

The cold chain logistics system plans to be made up of 2,000 cold storage houses and cover 660 domestic cities. It should be large and comprehensive enough to handle the surging demand of online shoppers in fresh products, according to a JD manager.

In 2017, Chinese consumers bought more fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, meats, and other perishable products through online channels than any other country in the world. With a staggering year-on-year increase of 59.7 percent, the market rocketed to 139.13 billion yuan ($21.8 billion) in transaction volume last year.

Gree, headquartered in Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai, is the world's largest air conditioner manufacturer.
