Xiangzhou regulates small workshops to enhance food safety

Updated: 2018-08-31 Print

A 1.2-hectare food processing center that is set to accommodate and standardize food workshops in Xiangzhou District is undergoing bidding process, and expects to commence construction this year.

The key project to improve people's livelihood will encourage small food workshops to locate in the proposed center, aiming to benefit from centralized production, management, and testing. The new operations will also save publicity efforts for the workshop owners.

Those sub-standard, dirty, scattered food workshops without license or with incomplete certificate and license will be banned, according to officials.

Zhuhai is striving to become a provincial demonstration city for food safety.

At present, all Xiangzhou schools including kindergartens have answered the government's call to make their kitchens transparent, in which sanitation, cooking process, and machines are exposed to their supervisors and users. More than 160 restaurants in the district have been included in the “white list” to embrace the supervision.
