The award ceremony of the 4th Zhuhai Mayor's Cup Industrial Design Competition is held on July 24.

The 4th Zhuhai Mayor's Cup Industrial Design Competition awarded a number of outstanding works including Gree's easy-to-use electric cookers at its award ceremony on July 24.

Gree Electric Appliances of Zhuhai, located in Xiangzhou District, is one of the world's largest home appliances manufacturers. Its R & D capacity is rated among the best in the global industry.

The latest rice cooker series developed by Tosot, a homegrown brand under Gree, received the first prize. Its top cover is detachable for cleaning, which is an innovative technology domestically. In addition, the adoption of internationally advanced induction heating (IH) technology enables the product to quickly and accurately control the cooking temperature.

Li Sha, deputy head of Gree's industrial design center said that Gree considers industrial design as the vanguard of design innovation. Their industrial designers should not only understand art, but also have sound knowledge of technology so that they can perfectly combine appearance and practical functions.

The competition has increased its prizing pool from 300,000 yuan ($46,947) in the previous year to 1.1 billion yuan ($172 million), reflecting the local government's great support for innovative design.

The award ceremony coincided with the opening ceremony of the 9th Guangdong Governor's Cup Industrial Design Competition in Zhuhai division.
