The 9th Guangdong Governor's Cup Industrial Design Competition opened the Zhuhai division on July 24.

This year's competition, themed "new age, new design", consists of three groups competing in product design, concept design and industrial design. The organizing committee anticipated 100 outstanding works from the Zhuhai division to be submitted to provincial competitions.

The event coincided with the award ceremony of the 4th Zhuhai Mayor's Cup Industrial Design Competition.

According to Zhang Biaowen, deputy director of the Zhuhai Science, Technology, Industry & Information Technology Bureau, the Mayor's Cup has been held every other year since 2011. The fourth edition was launched in July, 2017, receiving a total of 594 works with 53 of them being awarded. The award-winning entries qualified for the Governor's Cup competition.

At present, Zhuhai has two national industrial design centers including Gree Electric Appliances and Rossini, three provincial industrial design centers and a number of outstanding enterprises with innovative strength.

Zhang said that Zhuhai Special Economic Zone has launched a new journey of "second entrepreneurship". As an important starting point for industrial transformation and upgrading, industrial design has ushered in unprecedented development opportunities and will provide new kinetic energy for the construction of the city's modern economic system, he added.
