The 5th Zhuhai University Student Pioneering Competition opened online registration on July 17, promising up to 100,000 yuan ($15,649) in prize money to each winning team.

Applicants must visit www.zhldj.gov.cn/zhrsClient to complete registration and go through a preliminary screening process. The final round is scheduled for the middle of November.

Teams of contestants will be divided into a Planning Group and a Practice Group. The classification is based on what processes their businesses are involved in, and whether they are still in the planning stage or have moved on to the practical application stage.

Each group will produce no more than 10 finalists. Each of the two winning teams with the highest scores in the Planning Group will take home a prize of 50,000 yuan ($7,824). The Practice Group's top performers will be given 100,000 yuan ($15,649) each.

Champions will also be eligible for beneficial policies such as subsidies and rent exemptions. They could even receive help in applying for loans at discounted rates, according to the Zhuhai Human Resources & Social Security Bureau, the sponsor of the event.

Zhuhai has been trying to stimulate and expand employment by encouraging business startups.
