This year, Zhuhai, Guangdong Province plans to spend 12 billion yuan ($1.8 billion) for constructing transportation infrastructure. The city is advancing toward becoming a traffic hub city in the west bank of Pearl River.
Proceeding currently are 47 transportation projects. The key projects among them are the construction of the Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit Phase I, Jinhai Bridge Phase II, and Xingye Express Road.
For example, Banzhang Mt Tunnel is being widened to break gridlocks on south-north Yingbin Road and further alleviate traffic pressure on downtown Zhuhai. The two current tunnels will be flanked by two additional dual-lane tunnels, with a maximum speed being 60 kmph. There will be a smaller two-way slow-traffic passage exclusively for cyclists and pedestrians.
Six entrances for the three passageways have been opened, with the drilling of more than 90 m.
The 240-million-yuan ($34.7-million) project is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
