Shen Changxiang, an academician and expert on national security emphasizes the importance of cyberspace security at a lecture he gave in Xiangzhou District on June 4.

The lecture aimed to promote cyber security awareness and digital literacy as well as improving related skills, as China currently has a shortage of cyber security specialists.

The event was part of an education program designed for calibers in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai.

An academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Shen also serves as a member of the Advisory Committee for State Information.

The second-generation Chinese identity cards featuring anti-counterfeiting were thanks to Shen's successful efforts in applying chip technology, who was employed as chief scientist on the project. He is also well-known for his work on a cloud service for Windows XP users in China.

The new computer-readable ID card replaces the first-generation card that has been in circulation for more than 20 years and the new cards verify identity through the use of chip technology, thanks in part to Shen's efforts.

Zhuhai Hotdoor Technology, a high-tech company specializing in cloud computing, also attended the lecture.

Last year, the firm proposed the establishment of an academician workstation which will be led by Shen. The institution will be committed to research and the commercialization of trusted computing security chips and engaging in information security projects at all levels of government. If the project is approved, Xiangzhou will have two academician workstations, in addition to the current one in the district aimed at printing consumable technology.
