Little trim, great transformation

Xiangzhou District in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, has built a tranquil recreational area for its residents as part of a program to beautify Shishan sub-district.

The little yard covering about 100 square meters along the Huwan Road features classic architectural style and plays a big part in the "Beautiful Shishan" Project. A great mass of green vegetation enlivens it, with ponds, stone benches, stone tables, and various ornaments enhancing its functions.

Xiangzhou is currently receiving a facelift. Cosmetic changes can be seen across the district and are very welcomed as they don't damage the existing spatial pattern. In addition, the artistic transformation is highly integrated with local history and culture, and is also very cheap and environmentally friendly.

One of the beautification methods is decorating walls. The 40.5-meter wall at No 1001 Dongfeng Community, already opened to the public, is an example.

According to one official, before transformation, it was just a normal wall outside a district, damaged and discolored. But now, it has been truly revitalized by a fresh coat of paint.

The Shishan Sub-district will continue to beautify this whole area. It must work with limited space, yet can bring about improvements in infrastructure, spatial planning and an uplifted city appearance and environment.
