Gree enhances air conditioner market leadership with new technology

Updated: 2018-03-22 Print

Gree Electric Appliances has confirmed its technological capability once again by cutting energy consumption of central household air conditioners in half without compromising comfort. Independent assessment has certified the technique as superior to those of a majority of once-dominant Japanese products.

The breakthrough, yet another revolutionary innovation filling Gree's technical library, was unveiled at the Appliance & Electronics World Expo 2018 (AWE) held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from March 8 to 11.

Frequency-converting technology when wisely applied to a double-cylinder capacity variable compressor consumes only 50 percent of the power that would be otherwise required while stabilizing temperatures at a comfortable level. The result is sure to satisfy domestic customers and should lead to a larger market share.

Japanese companies used to control the market of variable refrigerant flow (VRF) air conditioning systems, but no longer. As one of the largest air conditioner manufacturers in the world, Gree, alongside other leading companies, has been maturating the technology in that field through continuous research and development, according to Li Daoping, deputy dean of the Hefei General Machinery & Electrical Products Inspection Institute. The institute has issued a report proving the high efficiency of the technology.

As of today, Gree's focus remains on core technologies, an approach which has developed 19 world-leading applications and 35,185 patent applications. Its products are sold to more than 160 countries and regions, putting the company in first place domestically in terms of production and sales of household air conditioners since 1995. It has taken and sustained the leading place in the global market for each of the 13 years since 2005.

The company has also successfully broken into the intelligent-equipment sector. Since 2013, products of more than 100 specifications in more than 10 fields have been developed, including 5,500 sets of automated equipment which have yielded the company a total output value of approximately 3 billion yuan ($475 million).
