Gree innovations to popularize central household air-conditioners

Updated: 2018-03-14 Print

Central household air conditioners will see widespread use in domestic markets, experts predict.

The expected development will be mainly credited to a groundbreaking technique newly developed by Gree Electric Appliances which is able to cut energy consumption in half while stabilizing temperatures at a comfortable level.

High commodity and energy costs have been the disadvantages stunting the family central air conditioning market. However, by installing a double-cylinder capacity variable compressor and using frequency-converting technology, Gree-made products consume only 50 percent of the power, a level of electricity bills that ordinary families can afford. Noise control and temperature fluctuation are also greatly improved.

The world-leading home appliances supplier unveiled the breakthroughs at the Appliance & Electronics World Expo 2018 (AWE) held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from March 8 to 11.

Liu Hua, assistant president and deputy chief engineer of Gree Electric Appliances, illustrates the operating principle of the new family-use central air conditioning system.

Thirteen authoritative experts had identified the technology as world-leading before the debut, and the Hefei General Machinery & Electrical Products Inspection Institute had certified the high efficiency. It says the power consumption of a foreign multi-split air conditioning unit for 12 hours of operation in a certain room is 4.71 kWh, but under the same conditions the Gree products consume only 1.848 kWh.

The flexible operation that allows instant switching between single and dual cylinder-mode is the key solution. According to Liu Hua, Gree’s assistant president and deputy chief engineer, there are two prominent problems in traditional products: minimum output power is too large and low-load operation is inefficient. Those problems will no longer bother users. For example, when a home-owner opens two or more air conditioners, the compressor operates in the twin-cylinder mode to achieve a normal cooling level. If only one conditioner is run, the compressor adopts the single-cylinder mode, which not only meets heating requirements but also saves electricity.

Dong Mingzhu, president of Gree Electric Appliances and a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress attending the first session of the NPC in Beijing, said in a video message that innovative R&D capacity is the prerequisite to making China a manufacturing power and that only innovative technologies can change the lives of consumers.
