More than 200 music lovers take part in the Xiangzhou Art Lecture held on Feb 27. Chen Shasha (C) and Lu Yiwen (L), two famous musicians, demonstrate their expertise in traditional Chinese musical instruments.

Chen is a graduate with honors from the premier China Conservatory of Music. Her sophisticated mastery of dizi, a Chinese transverse flute, and xiao, a vertical bamboo flute, has brought her frequent opportunities to perform abroad. To help distinguish various kinds of bamboo flutes, Chen illustrated their differences regarding shape, color, and length, and by listening to demonstrations participants were able to tell the differences between the similar wind instruments.

Lu Yiwen has been acclaimed a young master of erhu. She gave advice on how to learn the famous traditional two-stringed musical instrument, and a show-how performance explaining the skills required to process an art work and use specific string techniques.

A performance in praise of Zhuhai people's extraordinary strength and resilience in combating last year's devastating Typhoon Hato won high accolades from the audience.

The Xiangzhou Art Lecture, held 60 times since 2014, is an official platform sponsored by the Xiangzhou District Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau to spread cultural and art knowledge.

This year's scheduled activities include fine arts, calligraphy, language skills, and concert etiquette. Detailed information is available on the WeChat account (ID: HLXZ_ZH).
