The American daily newspaper USA Today devoted a whole page on Feb 22 to Zhuhai's dramatic presence in today's world. The stunning southern Chinese city amazed global viewers of the Chinese Spring Festival Gala with its innovative performances and demonstrations of advanced technologies.
Zhuhai, Guangdong was a forerunner of the Reform & Opening Up put forward in 1978 when it was designated one of the first special economic zones. This year is the 40th anniversary of the national policy.
Taking advantage of China's most-watched TV program, Zhuhai was able to showcase its cultural soft strength and hard power. The Gala, an indispensable part of Chinese New Year's Eve celebrations, was clearly enriched by Zhuhai's spectacular visual effects.
Though it was the first time the city was chosen to host one of the parallel sessions of the broadcast, Zhuhai seized the opportunity to present itself in a comprehensive way. Among the most impressive presentations was the formation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), driverless cars, and unmanned surface vessels (USV). The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the longest manmade sea crossing nearing completion, was staggering, and the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Hengqin New Area provided a backdrop of spectacular shows and fireworks signifying the city's openness and dynamism.

The article titled Chinese New Year--Zhuhai Opens New Window of Dialogue with the World pointed out that Zhuhai is not unfamiliar to the world as the city has been revealing its development growth potential over recent years. Its name is often associated with major breakthroughs in the fields of equipment manufacturing and engineering construction. Some big achievements were cited in the article such as the "Zhuhai-1" remote sensing micro-nano satellite constellation, and China's homegrown AG600 (named Kunlong), the largest amphibious aircraft in the world. These "created in Zhuhai" products were based on improved R&D ability and adequate talent and capital resources; they reflect the country's determination to realize "Created in China" instead of "Made in China."
More opportunities have arisen in the city with construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Zhuhai has benefited in the past and will continue to benefit from high-level overall urban development.
Eager to take itself to a new height and mutual development with other countries and regions, Zhuhai is building more international and advanced platforms for innovation. "Zhuhai, at the stunning gala, has extended its invitation worldwide as a new window, a connector for dialogues between China and the rest of the world."
