With Zhuhai having been chosen as one of the sub-venues of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala on Feb 15, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Hengqin New Area is set to provide a gorgeous backdrop highlighting marine culture and cutting-edge technology.

The popular tourist attraction houses the world's largest aquariums and would appear to be a suitable venue for live broadcasting of the most-watched TV program in China. Another site to be featured will be the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the world's longest sea-spanning structure deemed a marvel of Chinese engineering.

From Feb 16 to 25, Chimelong will stage Ocean Resistance – an original show long popular among tourists – with updated excitement through new storylines. Visitors to the Kingdom will also be able to enjoy a 15-minute fireworks show synced to dancing drones.

During the activity period there will be a parade of decorated floats heading to the Hengqin Ocean at the center of the resort. Participants lucky enough to meet the actor dressed up as the God of Wealth will have an opportunity to pray for good fortune, which is sure to materialize because the "god" will have a variety of festival gifts to distribute.

Making New Year wishes together with different kinds of marine animals such as emperor penguin chicks, bears and seals will be another wonderful way to celebrate the festival.

More varieties of fun activities are scheduled across Zhuhai, according to a tourism official. Sumlodol Hengqin Camping Park will integrate camping with many interesting elements such as self-driving, barbecues, bonfire parties, and games. There will also be a sandpit and amusement park suitable for kids of all ages.

Thrilling Aviclub helicopter experiences will be available in Jinwan District. Individuals and families will be able to take 25-minute helicopter tours and see Zhuhai the way the birds do.

Also highly anticipated for holiday-goers will be refined family banquets and garden tours at Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone hotels. Included are the Gree Dong'ao Hotel, Dreamland Resort on Wanshan Island, Haixin Youhuo Resort Hotel on Wailingding Island, and a holiday resort hotel on Hebao Island.

Held concurrently will be a Spring Festival Temple Fair organized by the Yu Wen Quan Imperial Hot Springs Resort. The fair will integrate hot-spring culture and traditional folk customs. Some suites will even be discounted during the festival period.

This year's tourism product mix is an updated version of last year's. The new innovations are based on consumers' increasing demands, the official explained. In 2017, Zhuhai welcomed more than 39.8 million tourists generating 36.8 billion yuan ($5.8 billion) of revenue, up 2 percent and 16 percent year-on-year respectively. If the new attractions appeal as anticipated, the figures for this year's event should rise.
