Xiangzhou gains innovative development momentum

Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai has achieved remarkable results in developing its real economy through innovation, local media reported on Dec 20.
In recent years, driven by innovative development, new enterprises have been growing and leading enterprises have begun industrial transformation and upgrading.
With a large number of high-tech companies gaining momentum, some competitive innovative industries including smart manufacturing, high-end electronic information, and 3D printing are of high priority on Xiangzhou's work agenda.

Statistics show that from January to November, Xiangzhou District earned the total output value from its large-scale industrial enterprises of 148.33 billion yuan ($22.55 billion), increasing 15.63 percent compared to the same period last year.
"Most high-tech enterprises realizing explosive growth are engaged in high-end electronic information industry," commented an official from Xiangzhou's district technology, industry and information bureau.
The district currently produce 80 percent of colored tape used across the globe, 70 percent of compatible print cartridges and 30 percent of toner cartridges, with those products exported to more than 100 countries and regions.

Seine has experienced and benefited from the leapfrogged development in the printing industry over the past several years in the district, growing to become one of the most important supply bases for office consumables, with an annual industrial output of 18 billion yuan in 2016 and export value of 6.8 billion yuan.
"Since 2012, Seine has improved its product structure, shifting from general printing consumables to supplies for high-end laser printers and then to 3D printing technologies. Our company has registered 3,600 patents," said Zhang Jianzhou, president of the company.
In addition, cutting-edge parts and components developed by Zhuhai-based Gree have been widely used in precise instruments, high-precision medical devices and military equipment.
Xiangzhou plans to vigorously develop the industries of software, integrated circuit design, and internet of things in the next three to five years, aiming to create new growth poles in the district.

Xiangzhou has also been striving to boost the construction of innovation platforms, as well as attracting innovation-minded talents to the district. At present, Xiangzhou District has set up 13 high-tech business incubators, covering 154,000 square meters, and six maker spaces.
In 2017, a total of 358 organizations have been accredited as high-tech enterprises, a year-on-year increase of 110 percent.
