The curtain opened for the 11th Zhuhai College Students Arts Festival on the evening of Dec 17 with more than 600 teachers and students taking part in the artistic revelry.

A first for the festival, this year it concluded with a stage spectacular performance involving many of the stand-out acts from over the previous arts activities.

Starting in September, the festival included singing and dance competitions, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, dialogues and speeches, as well as witty skits. It gave a chance for students to display their talents and demonstrate their strong cultural confidence.

A total of 242 works were submitted to the creativity competition by 523 competitors in forms of e-posters and micro films, displaying the positive outlook held by youth in Zhuhai.

The "Chinese Dream" themed poster designed by students from the Beijing Institute of Technology (Zhuhai) took home first prize.

Winners of various competitions held during the four month-long festival were awarded at the ceremony.

To respond to the national strategy of rural vitalization, organizers also created a series of activities to help college students gain a closer insight of new villages in Zhuhai, witness the achievements of the construction of new countryside and create a platform for students to playtheir part in the revitalization of rural areas.

"We are very happy to take part in the rural carnival activity," said one student from Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Technology. "It enables us to get to know some agricultural enterprises, rural development and inspires us on the future engagement of agricultural development."

Another highlight of this year's festival was the friendly exchanges between young people from Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao. Students from Hong Kong and Macao were very pleased to enhance mutual understanding through channels of culture and art, according to representatives from the two special administrative regions.

They will also hold calligraphy and painting exhibition and debate competition to further boost bilateral relations after the closing ceremony

"The art festival creates a perfect platform to display youthful charm of college students and promote the positive energy in addition to facilitating communication, cooperation and development between young people in the three places," said an official at Zhuhai Committee of Chinese Communist Youth League.

The festival was sponsored by the Zhuhai Committee of Chinese Communist Youth League, Zhuhai Education bureau and Zhuhai Students' Federation.
