Advances in real economy and livelihoods needed in Xiangzhou

Updated: 2017-12-15 Print

Propelling the real economy as well as balancing economic development and improving people's livelihoods was identified as a priority need in an article by Xiangzhou District Chief Liu Qiying in the Zhuhai Daily Dec 15.

As an example of applying that priority Liu drew attention to Xiangzhou-headquartered Gree Electric Appliances, one of the largest air-conditioner manufacturers in the world, saying it will have access to better government service on its way to becoming an international intelligent manufacturing industrial base. Other competitive enterprises such as Mektec Manufacturing Corporation Zhuhai will also be given special attention and instant help during their various stages of growth.

Meanwhile, efforts to upgrade traditional industries will be doubled, and some sectors will be supported to bring about increased added value. They include technological transformation, deep integration of big data, internet and artificial intelligence, and introduction of new technologies, new management and new models.

Advantageous industries such as printing consumables and household appliances are the key to the effort, Liu pointed out.

Equally important is cultivating emerging industries. Xiangzhou, at the core urban area of Zhuhai City, enjoys complete living facilities and a good livable environment but its development has long been restricted by a shortage of land resources. To solve the problem as well as optimize the industrial layout, intelligent manufacturing equipment and high-end new information sectors, with intense capital and talent characteristics, will continue to be prioritized. Old industrial parks will undergo a new round of renovations and upgrades to serve the settlement of new vibrant businesses.

Efforts will aim to cultivate 450 High & New-Technology Enterprises (HNTEs) in 2017 – a move to turn Xiangzhou into a fertile ground for innovation. It is included in the Measures on Innovative Development of Xiangzhou District issued early this year.

All this serves people-oriented construction which calls for well-rounded improvement in the ecological environment, living conditions, and convenient public services, Liu noted. Education and medical treatment should advance with the launch of more cultural projects in the near future. Also scheduled are seven town and sub-district leveled centers dedicated to service for the aged. A total of 320 million yuan ($48 million) will be required, according to reports.
