Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai

An architectural project undertaken by Guangdong Constar Construction Group has become the first of its kind in Zhuhai to win the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize, the top honor in the country's building industry, according to the Xiangzhou District government.

Recognized were the first and second phases of the Huafa Talent Apartment located at No 988 Tangqi Road in Xiangzhou. It is part of Zhuhai's affordable housing construction program.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of Luban Prize, a batch of engineering projects from 2016 and 2017 were selected to represent state of the art building in the domestic industry at a sharing session held in Beijing on Nov 6.

The Zhuhai project grabbed particular attention because of its application of world-leading industrialized construction technologies. It is the first such attempt in the country, adopting at the same time the self-developed aluminum alloy formwork manufacturing method to ensure complete damp proofing, and the building information modeling (BIM) system. The management model is a whole-process controller. It shares visual building information and provides required data, an important guidance to specific procedures, according to a project head.

What's more, engineers have pioneered a national and a Guangdong provincial-level industry standard during the construction process. A national invention patent and 11 utility patents have been developed, contributing to the building's honor of being designated as a Guangdong demonstration project for applying new construction technologies.

The new benchmark in the industry signified Zhuhai's achievement in promoting modern construction, and has modeled practices to be followed in terms of quality control, refined management, precision construction and technological innovation, said an local expert.
