Volunteers have come together to brighten up their communities in Xiangzhou district, painting walls, putting up new fences and even decorating an old well.
By adding garden ornaments, sculptures, and decorating public facilities at the roadside, the district's urban manager said he not only wanted to create new amenities for residents but also to impress visitors.
Meanwhile, government officials have extensively absorbed the views of city designers, architects, university students and residents to plan an optimal layout for Xiangzhou.
Walls have been freshly painted in Shishan sub-district including on Renmin East Road and Guanghua Street, and is about to begin in Gongbei and Jida.
Thanks to the high public involvement, the works have been carried out much quicker than expected, said a local official. Such cosmetic changes have been welcomed as they don't damage the existing spatial pattern and are cheap and environmentally friendly.
The scheme is sponsored by the Publicity Department and Civilization Office of CPC Xiangzhou District Committee.
