Xiangzhou, Zhuhai kicked off the second district kite festival on Nov 4, with various shaped kites from 16 teams taking to the skies to compete for top honors.
More professional kite fliers from Guangdong Province cities and Hong Kong took part in the competition after a year's skill improvement.
Held on Zhuhai's signature attraction site Xianglu Bay Beach, the festival featured marine elements well integrated with Zhuhai's beautiful coastal views. It was sponsored by the district's Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau and Sports Federation, and organized by Kite Association.
The most eye-catching was a dragon kite train flown by five members of Yangjiang Kite Association. It was about 1,200 meters long, winning as the longest string kite at the just-ended Third Guangdong Kite Championship in October. The production comprised a dragon head and hundreds of similar kite sections to form the body. More than a thousand people came to the beach, cheering on the perfect teamwork.
The biggest golden carp-shaped kite from a Beijing team and the local Trilobita-like kite also came into focus, alongside with all kinds of innovations in the form of clownfish, octopus, centipede, eagles, and popular cartoon characters.
People were brought together in a fantastic and dynamic way in which the earth, wind, and sky combine to create an unequaled festival experience. A parent-child activity was organized to offer DIY fun with painting kites.
Also on the schedule was a spectacular sparkling kite show at night.
