Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai

Zhuhai became National Eco-Civilization Demonstration Cities, named by the Ministry of Environmental Protection on Sept 22.

Forty-five other cities or counties (districts) were honored too at a Promotion Conference for National Eco-Civilization Construction held in Jida, Zhejiang Province on Sept 21.

Conference officials explained that the accreditation recognizes that each jurisdiction followed the National Eco City (County) practices. The original construction indicators were kept as the basic requirements, while development stages and regional differences were taken into account. The honor recipients proved themselves to be advanced in ecological progress in accordance with high standards.

The National Eco-Civilization Demonstration City program is a countrywide reform to further bolster the development of a civilized society in harmony with nature so as to achieve ecological sustainability, an official explained.

The Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau said Zhuhai was cited once again as a model of ecological conservation and the pursuit of green, coordinated and sustainable development.

Zhuhai's leading position comes after persistent practice of its balanced development philosophy in line with "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets." 

In 2012, the municipal Party committee and government issued their Decision on the Construction of an Eco-Civilization Demonstration City. The following years have seen Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai, Jinwan and Doumen districts awarded National Eco prizes one after another. Fourteen villages and towns applying for the honor have all passed examinations.

Other esteemed honors the city has won include being designated National Environmental Protection Exemplary, National Ecological Garden,  National Health cities, a National Ecological Demonstration Zone, and one of China's Excellent Tourism Cities, Top 10 Happiest Cities, Famous Harmonious Cities, and National Forestry Cities.
