Xiangzhou District held a commendation conference to honor outstanding figures, social organizations, and enterprises in their efforts to do restore the city battered by typhoons Hato and Pakhar, on Sept 14.
More than 180 advanced collectives and 535 individuals have moved the city and were awarded at the ceremony.
Yan Hong, Party secretary of Xiangzhou District, said in his summary that the district government expressed heartfelt greetings and high respects to those who have contributed their part in the disaster relief.
On Aug 23 and 27, Typhoon Hato and and Pakhar made their landfalls in the southern Chinese city with days of rainstorms, paralyzing local traffic and production.
District government officials played a leading role in the rescue and relief work and united with the public to remove obstacles, clear up fallen trees and rubbish on the streets in first time.
Rescue workers save people got trapped by the flood.
Soldiers, diving instructors, and even amateur divers put on clumsy diving suits with any hesitation in their hour of need, jumping into the flood and rescue people who got trapped. Those "frogmen" have worked wonders one after another.
Xiangzhou district-based enterprises and social organizations have donated money and batches of relief goods.
In addition, it's estimated that there were around 150,000 volunteers taking part in the flood relief and restoration work and 10,000 volunteers worked at the front line to help people tide over the natural disaster every day.
