18 community parks reopen to the public after typhoons

18 community parks in Xiangzhou District were announced to reopen to the public after the two-week renovation, on Sept 7, local media reported.

Over the last few weeks, Typhoon Hato, Pakhar, and Mawar heavily battered the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai with torrential rains and strong winds, the most devastating of which was the Typhoon Hato on Aug 23.

The force of typhoons coming one after the other caused great damage to local vegetation, sand beaches, infrastructures and facilities, paralyzing 71 out of the 92 community parks in the main urban area.

"Our company organized more than 900 maintenance workers urgently repair the parks affected by the typhoons after Typhoon Hato passed," said Huang Wenzhong, deputy general manager of Zhuhai Zhengfang Property Management Co.

In addition to the 18 parks, three major sand beaches have also been restored and are accessible to the public.

A second round of repairing projects is also getting under way in Xiangzhou District's community parks, troubleshooting electrical network and clearing out the fallen trees.

As the progress goes along, 12 more community parks will be repaired by Sept 15 and all parks are expected to reopen by the end of September, with damaged facilities to be replaced or repaired by the end of October, Huang added.
