Government support ensures smooth post-disaster recovery

Updated: 2017-09-06 Print

Xiangzhou Party Secretary Yan Hong and District Chief Liu Qiying led separate group inspections to major industrial zones to learn about the current state of post-typhoon restoration and reconstruction on Sept 5.

The Zhuhai district in Guangdong Province was smacked by last month's two typhoons – Hato and Pakhar -- and the destruction was aggravated by Tropical Storm Mawar which arrived in Guangdong Province on Sept 3. Hato was this year's strongest storm so far; its destructive power hasn't been seen in 53 years.

Hongwan and Qianshan commerce, trade & logistics centers, and the Nanping Science & Technology Industrial Park all began production soon after power, water and the internet were restored through around the clock emergency work.

Company representatives gave updates on production recovery and requested the help needed to continue operations.

Government officials promised a mixture of aid in finance and tax adjustments and a series of other post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction preferential policies.

In addition, officials urged that the 21 million yuan ($3.2 million) available in aid funds be put in place as soon as possible to alleviate the pressure of maintenance and rebuilding expenses on affected companies.
