Xiangzhou pulls together to rebuild after typhoons

Thousands of emergency workers remove fallen branches in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai in Guangdong Province, after being hit by two typhoons last month, one after the other, Hato on Aug 23 and Pakhar on Aug 27.
A sanitation worker in Xiangzhou is busy all day cutting thick fallen branches on Aug 25 before they can be removed. He is one of many dispatched to carry out recovery works after Zhuhai City was hit by Hato, the strongest typhoon in more than 53 years.
Citizens join in to help clear roads, hoping to contribute his or her share to rebuild their hometown.
Day-and-night emergency services and relief from out-of-district areas help Xiangzhou recover with unbelievable speed.
Primary students help to clear roads and lift garbage during a temporary suspension of businesses and schools caused by typhoons.
Xiangzhou volunteers, consisting members from all walks of life, form groups to visit areas needing more hands.
A local shopkeeper offers free drinks and bread for hungry emergency workers. Many local restaurants and shops have provided aid.
The local armed police force is joined by troops from other Guangdong cities, rushing emergency workers into Xiangzhou District, which is located northeast of Jinwan, where Typhoon Hato made landfall on Aug 23.
In response to a proposal released by Xiangzhou District officials for people to rebuild their hometowns, volunteer teams have been is set up.
